George Bokaris

George started dancing at 15, primarily at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, Sydney. At 16 he moved to the Gold Coast to train full-time, mentored by Justine Summers, and completed his Advanced 1 and 2 exams with Danielle Williams. At 19 he moved to the United States with a full scholarship to Charlotte Ballet's pre-professional program in North Carolina. While there, he trained and performed under the direction of Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride. He performed numerous roles with the company including the soldier prince in The Nutcracker, second soloist in Spatialisation, mazurka in The Sleeping Beauty and as first soloist in Concerto Divertimenti, by Jeanene Perry. Before returning to Australia, George was offered contracts with Ballet Tucson, San Diego Ballet and Ballet Arizona, but has since returned with a focus on teaching.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
