Michael Küster

#Biography

Early in Michael Küster's career, he gained experience as a presenter, writer, and host for several German radio stations, where he curated classical music programs and hosted live broadcasts from renowned venues such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Semperoper Dresden, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus.

Since 2002, Michael has been part of the team at Opernhaus Zürich, initially as a dramaturge. Since 2012, he has focused on dramaturgy for Ballett Zürich, collaborating with prominent choreographers including Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe, Marco Goecke, and Christian Spuck. Together with Spuck, he has contributed to many productions such as Romeo and Juliet, Winterreise, Messa da Requiem, Sleeping Beauty, and Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern.

Michael also maintains a strong creative partnership with German director Matthias Hartmann. Their joint projects span major operatic works including Rusalka, Carmen, and Mathis der Maler in Zürich, as well as Pique Dame, Idomeneo, and Der Freischütz at La Scala in Milan.
