Luke Peacock

Luke Daniel Peacock was born and lives in Magandjin/Brisbane. He is a descendant of the Meriam people of the Torres Strait Islands (Erub). Luke is a multi-award-winning singer/songwriter, musician and emerging producer. He has recorded and performed across the world with some of the most revered names in Australian and international music. He founded the historic and successful project The Painted Ladies and is a current or former member of a number of acclaimed and award-winning Australian bands and projects.

Luke has accompanied Thelma Plum (ABC’s The Sound, Triple J’s Live At The Wireless) and played as a multi-instrumentalist for artists including Halfway, Alice Skye, Tia Gostelow, Jem
Cassar-Daley and the surf-soundtrack collective, Headland. 

In 2015, Luke recorded a solo LP titled ‘We’ve Come A Long Way Darling’. The album received high critical acclaim and led to Luke being awarded The Billy Thorpe Scholarship Award in 2016.
A year later, ‘The Painted Ladies Play Selections From The Loner’ was featured in the book ‘The110 Best Australian Albums’.

In 2019, Luke founded the indie-rock group Minor Premiers. The band’s debut and subsequent singles featured heavily across radio and official Spotify playlists, whilst being tapped as the
support for bands such as You Am I, Youth Group and Dan Kelly. 

Luke’s 2020 solo single ‘Older Then’ reached #2 on AMRAP’s Metro Chart. In 2022, Halfway’s album ‘Restless Dream’ (with Uncle Bob Weatherall and William Barton) resulted in Luke’s first
ARIA nomination. 

In 2023 he co-wrote and recorded a commission piece with indie-pop artist Asha Jefferies for a worldwide campaign by Tourism & Events QLD. Luke has also composed music for Brisbane Festival’s Lightscapes and created an interactive music installation and Museum of Brisbane. 

In recent years, Luke has been developing skills as Associate Producer with Magandjin-based organisation, BlakDance. He has recently been acknowledged in this role by being accepted into
Performing Lines National Producer’s Program.

Outside his practice, Luke remains grounded in and committed to being of service to his community, through mentorship, advocacy, guidance and support for First Nations musicians navigating the industry and beyond.
