Artist Spolight: Company Artist Taron Geyl
Taron also goes by the name of Taza, and is the eldest child in a family of 6 humans, 4 dogs, 1 cat and 1 pig they call Piggy. He is 22 years old and was born and raised in Brisbane. Taron was introduced to the dancing world by his mum, a former professional dancer with the Australian Ballet. However, it was his own passion for performing, moving to music as well as the creative and physical challenges that drove him to pursue a career in the industry. He grew up dancing ballet, contemporary, jazz and hip hop and is well-accomplished in acrobatics and martial arts. It makes sense that a round-off flip is Taron’s go-to party trick!
On a typical day off Taron values a good sleep in and spending quality time with family. Taron is often sprung filming a TikTok in his spare time, whether that’s in the dressing room, a studio or at home where his family and pets make guest appearances! He has gained a large following on social media and with that he has learnt a lot about having an online presence, which has become another passion of his. Taron has built a community who engage with his trending dance videos, with some featuring over 28 million views! Taron recognises that his online success is a privilege and hopes to continue to inspire his viewers to dance, work hard creatively and feel more connected to the art form! When Taron’s not making TikTok’s, you may find him having brunch with a group of friends at Morning After in West End. Although Taron loves the warm and sunny QLD weather, his favourite holidays are those in the snow – he absolutely loves snowboarding. Taron can’t wait to travel the world one day, and after his dancing career could see himself becoming a content creator and property investor. He believes dance will always be a part of his life and has always had an interest in choreographing, so watch this space!
Taron can disclose an on-stage fail when he dancing in The Nutcracker by Ben Stevenson. He was performing the role of Fritz, Clara’s brother and in one scene his character steals the Nutcracker doll from Clara and runs away taunting her, and finally breaks the doll’s head off in triumph. However, this particular performance Taron accidentally dropped the Nutcracker doll’s head and kicked it straight into the orchestra pit… what a crack up!
