Exploring Elegantly Wasted

#Program Overview
FOR TEACHERS: This 2-hour afternoon professional learning workshop introduces teachers to Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s new work Elegantly Wasted, created for Queensland Ballet and set to the reimagined songs of INXS.
Teachers will gain insight into Lopez Ochoa’s choreographic process, learn adapted repertoire, and explore choreographic tasks inspired by professional rehearsal practice. The workshop concludes with the opportunity for discussion and Q&A with a member of the Elegantly Wasted creative team and a special invitation to watch a section of the show’s technical rehearsal.
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain understanding of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s choreographic process and rehearsal methods.
- Learn adapted Elegantly Wasted repertoire suitable for Years 7–12.
- Trial aligned choreographic tasks and explore classroom adaptations.
- Reflect on ways to scaffold professional practice into curriculum and assessment.
- Engage in discussion with a member of the Elegantly Wasted Creative team.
- Strengthen connections between contemporary industry practice and classroom teaching.
Mapped to AITSL Standards 2.1, 3.4, 6.2–6.4 and 7.4, the session blends theory and practice to equip teachers with practical strategies for classroom application and curriculum delivery across Years 7–12, with explicit connections to QCAA Senior Dance and ACARA: The Arts (Dance) Version 9.

Special Invitation: Stay to watch a section of the Technical Rehearsal of Elegantly Wasted at HOTA: 6:30pm – 7:30pm (Time TBC).
Please note that this is a working Technical Rehearsal, and the Artistic team may pause the run to provide notes to dancers and technical crew as required.
