Immersion Experience: Summer School Holiday Program
–
Thomas Dixon Centre
#Program Overview
Queensland Ballet invites Vacation Care groups to the Thomas Dixon Centre for an active and engaging Immersion Experience that explores ballet through the physical skills children already use in their everyday lives.
Beginning with “What’s your favourite way to move?”, children share the sports, hobbies and activities they enjoy and identify the skills involved - from power and coordination to agility, balance, flexibility and focus. They then take on the challenge of applying these skills in a new context, experimenting with how familiar movements can be transformed into ballet-inspired shapes and movement.
The experience combines practical movement exploration with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Thomas Dixon Centre and a Q&A with a Queensland Ballet Company dancer or staff member, giving children the opportunity to experience the home of a professional dance company and discover more about the people and work behind the performances.
What to Expect:
- Use Your Skills in a New Way: Children share their favourite ways to move and identify the physical skills they use, before taking on the challenge of transferring these skills into ballet-inspired shapes and movement. Through experimentation and creativity, they discover how familiar physical abilities can help them approach something new.
- Explore the Thomas Dixon Centre: Tour the home of Queensland Ballet and explore behind-the-scenes spaces, discovering the facilities and people that support a professional dance company.
- Meet Queensland Ballet Professionals: Take part in a Q&A with a Company artist or other staff member, with the opportunity to ask questions about their work, experiences and the many roles within a professional dance company.
