Dance for Veterans
Generously supported by RSL Queensland, the Dance for Veterans program enhances well-being for veterans experiencing PTSD or other trauma-related psychological injury, through dance and social connection. Inspired by military movement, it builds confidence and expression.

#About the program
The Dance for Veterans program aims to enhance quality of life for veterans experiencing PTSD or other trauma-related psychological injury.
Drawing on the historical similarities between military drill and dance movement, the program uses familiar patterns of rhythm, coordination, posture, and collective movement to create a safe and approachable movement activity for participants. Through progressive instruction and facilitated social connection, participants are supported to improve psychological, physical, social and environmental wellbeing, while reconnecting with confidence, expression and community.
The program is delivered across 8 weeks, with the sessions scheduled as follows:
Weeks 1 - 4: 1 session per week
Weeks 5 - 8: 2 sessions per week
All sessions are held at the Queensland Ballet studios in West End, facilitated by Queensland Ballet Teaching Artists.

#Testimonials
"So proud to be part of this incredible program. I've never done ballet in my life, but Dance for Veterans has already helped me reconnect with my body, my story, and other veterans in a truly uplifting way. Massive thanks to Queensland Ballet and RSL Queensland for making this happen. It's more than just movement, it's healing in motion."
- Dance for Veterans participant
In a world that often moves too fast,
We find our power in moments that last.
Where rhythm meets breath, and grace meets might,
We dance through shadows into light.
This is more than movement—this is care,
A place where healing fills the air.
Where every stretch and reach and bend
Becomes a message: “You can mend.”
With every step, the soul finds ground,
In leaps and lifts, new strength is found.
Bodies awaken, hearts align,
Stories unfold in perfect time.
No silence here, no fear, no shame—
Just names reclaimed, and joy proclaimed.
The Dance for Veterans path is clear:
Hope in motion, year by year.
Queensland Ballet leads the way,
Turning pain to art, and night to day.
In every class, in every beat,
We find resilience at our feet.
So come as you are, strong or sore,
Together we rise, and we restore.
Not just prevention—but a new start,
A dance of courage, soul, and heart.
