Naomi Johns

Soprano

Soprano Naomi Johns has become known for her remarkable versatility and substance throughout a vast repertoire with “heavenly floated high notes which pour out like liquid silver” as well as her “equally impressive lower register” – Seesaw Magazine, 2025

After completing her certificate in Music Theatre at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and commencing a Bachelor of Performing Arts at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Naomi joined Opera Australia in their national tour of My Fair Lady, continuing on to work with the company between international trips for coaching and development.

Naomi became the first female winner of the Bel Canto Award from the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Opera Foundation in 2013, which enabled her to continue her coaching in New York, Cardiff and London. Following this, she made her role debut as Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème in Canada and attended the George Solti Accademia di bel canto in Italy.

In 2025, Naomi debuted the role of Leonora in Verdi’s Il trovatore under the baton of Ascher Fish as well as the Soprano Soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with the Perth Philharmonic Orchestra.

Other role highlights include Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello, The Foreign Princess in Dvořák's Rusalka and Berta in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia for West Australian Opera, as well as making her music theatre debut as Carlotta Giudicelli with Opera Australia in The Phantom of the Opera for Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
