2018 is the year Queensland Ballet dares to dream.
Every ballet starts with a dream. A dream to dance with heart and soul, to tell a story, to enter a world of wonder and artistry. QB18 will bring the dreams of many talented artists to life, with ballets that will energise and challenge our dancers as much as they will entertain and thrill our audiences.
Our own Greg Horsman's sumptuous La Bayadère will open QB18 in March, with a fresh take on this classic ballet.
Next is a powerful double-bill of works from two of ballet’s most remarkable creative artists. Carlos Acosta’s Carmen is a passionate tour-de-force, and Liam Scarlett’s Firebird is a celebrated interpretation of the iconic 20th century ballet.
Back by popular demand, Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella has lost none of her charm and sparkle since first gracing our stage five years ago. This blockbuster will enchant audiences at the Lyric Theatre in September.
Following the first, sold-out season in 2017, a bold new Bespoke comes to Brisbane Powerhouse in November. We will collaborate with Expressions Dance Company and guest choreographers, while also celebrating dance through a number of visual art installations during this collaborative, creative project.
The Nutcracker will usher in the end-of-year holiday season with a festive flourish, now firmly an annual tradition in Brisbane.
In addition to these mainstage productions, audiences in regional Queensland will enjoy Ben Stevenson’s acclaimed production of Swan Lake, on tour in June/July. Later in the year, we will head to Melbourne with Liam Scarlett’s whimsical ballet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
