School Workshops 2026: Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's Elegantly Wasted
HOTA, Home of the Arts

#Program Overview
Step inside the creative world of internationally acclaimed choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa in this high-energy workshop for secondary dance students. Drawing on Lopez Ochoa's brand-new Queensland Ballet production Elegantly Wasted, set to the reimagined songs of INXS, students experience how dance can reveal themes of identify, loneliness and the human desire for to be connected.
Led by Queensland Ballet Teaching Artists, the session includes:
Adapted repertoire – learn and perform a short sequence drawn from the new work, developing contemporary technique, musicality and expressive skills.
Choreographic tasks – collaborate in small groups to devise original movement using production elements, experimenting with relationships between dancers, partner work and contrast.
Mapped to ACARA Dance (Years 7–10) and QCAA General & Dance in Practice syllabus content, this workshop encourages students to refine technical and expressive skills, practise safe-dance techniques and expand their choreographic toolkit, while offering a rare opportunity to engage with a major Australian world premiere.
Workshops available:
Wednesday 9th of September between 9:00am – 3:00pm at HOTA.
