Creative Immersion for Adults

'Peel back the curtain and explore the choreographic process with Queensland Ballet'

Join us at the Thomas Dixon Centre for a creative workshop program for individuals aged 18 years and over who are passionate about dance and eager to explore their creative potential. Our Creative Immersion for Adults is open to individuals of all ages and abilities who love to dance.

Your experienced facilitators will be Queensland Ballet Teaching Artists Mimi Van Buuren and Jamie Delmonte.

This workshop series will run across five Wednesdays during September and October and will culminate in an informal and relaxed in-studio showing of the creative development you have been working on together throughout the program. This is an opportunity to share your creative journey with any family or friends you would like to invite to attend.

Throughout this workshop series you will explore the fundamental tools of the choreographic process used by dancers and choreographers across the world.

You will learn two short choreographic phrases; one rooted in ballet movement the other in contemporary movement, and then work collaboratively as a group to explore, manipulate, and develop these phrases into two short original creative pieces.

Each workshop will commence with a fun warm-up influenced by a different dance style, to get bodies moving and the creative juices flowing. From there we will dive into different creative stimulus or tools to expand our creative development.

Join us to discover and connect to your own unique movement language.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
