World Teachers Day Statement 2019

Let us acknowledge and celebrate the impact arts educators have on our world.

World Teachers Day Statement 2019

Arts educators create a world of magic, promising a brighter future by making visible pathways to success. They nurture creativity as a principle for lifelong learning, providing the building blocks to expand dreams and broaden horizons.

We must support arts educators. We must offer them a platform to celebrate their everyday - acknowledging the positive influence they have on the next generation.

As society works towards an innovative and inspiring future, there is a strong focus to develop 21st century skills in all students. Under the guidance of dedicated educators, arts experiences are the vehicle where students develop the skills of critical and creative thinking; communication; collaboration and teamwork and personal and social skills.

“When I was a young student, I found my inspiration in Teacher Xiao, who instilled in me a love of ballet and the arts. Now as the leader of a world-class company, I hope to continue to inspire future generations to follow their passions, strive for the unimaginable and pursue an artistic career that is rewarding and exciting ” – Li Cunxin AO, Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet

We challenge all people across society to advocate the value of arts subjects, and to join with us as we thank our arts educators from all disciplines and sectors.

We believe that arts experiences and cultural initiatives are inspirational avenues for communities to be stronger, healthier and safer, and that all individuals should have access to the transformative power of arts experiences.

Please join with us, as we aim to inspire an army of believers; a world of arts lovers and arts advocates.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. Long before we performed on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders — past, present and emerging — and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
