Junior Program —
Queensland Ballet’s Junior Program is designed to supplement the ballet training which talented young dance students receive from community dance schools and teachers.
Participants are given the opportunity to further develop their skills by working with a group of their peers under the supervision of Queensland Ballet’s training staff, associate teachers and when possible, guest teachers.
Three levels of the Junior Program are offered, based on age. Each Program is open to up to 20 students.
Junior Program 1 (JP1): girls 11 - 12 years
Junior Program 1 (JP1): boys 11 - 14 years
Junior Program 2 (JP2): mixed 13 - 14 years
Junior Program 3 (JP3): mixed 15 - 16 years
The entry age is used as a guide when students successfully audition to enter the Program. Each student is then regularly assessed and placed into a class that will suit his or her level of training, so that full benefit may be gained from the Program.
Students are offered the opportunity, when possible, to observe Company class and/or rehearsal as an adjunct to their Program, and will be given first consideration when the Company requires juvenile performers for a production. However, performance opportunities are not guaranteed, and casting will be at the discretion of the Artistic Director and/or choreographer.
Classes are held during school terms, on every Tuesday (JP1 Girls and JP1 Boys) and every Wednesday (JP2 and JP3) from 5.15pm to 7pm, in Queensland Ballet’s studios at Thomas Dixon Centre in Brisbane’s West End.
