In 2019 Queensland Ballet will continue to offer inspiring, inclusive and educative dance workshops at your school, delivered by our highly experienced EdSquad teaching artists. Workshops are available for Kindergarten through to Year 12 covering a range of learning outcomes in Literacy, STEAM and Humanities & Social Sciences.

Ballet Moves
Kindergarten, Prep – Year 2

Bringing a narrative to life.

Set in the Australian bush, The Little Green Road to Fairyland is a vintage story brought to life by Queensland Ballet in 2019. The Ballet Moves workshop develops literacy and uses the Australian animals and landscapes in the story to introduce movement qualities, shape, size and level in a playful and creative way.

Please contact Queensland Ballet if you are interested in adapting the Ballet Moves workshop to a specific narrative you are studying with your students.

Moving to Learn
Year 2 – 6

Learning the basics of coding through dance.

Based on instructional and directional language, this creative dance workshop explores the connection between how we can program a robot to move and how we can instruct, or choreograph, our bodies to move in specific ways. Students will be challenged and engaged in this interactive dance and STEAM workshop where pathways, directions, shape and dimension will be explored.

Nutcracker Repertoire
Year 3 – 6

Dancing through cultures.

The popular and much-loved ballet, The Nutcracker, transports audiences around the world. In this workshop students will learn two sections of adapted repertoire from Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker to experience cultural dance and how the elements of dance are used to define this.

Lest We Forget Repertoire
Year 3 – 6

Dancing through history.

This workshop explores the theme of war through repertoire selected and adapted from QB’s 2016 triple bill, which draws from ballet and contemporary genres. Students will be guided through choreographic activities that will assist in creating their own, unique movements, providing opportunities for them to develop creativity and problem solving skills.

Ballet History and Technique
Year 7 – 12

The ideal introductory ballet workshop.

The history and evolution of ballet will be incorporated into the teaching of this ballet technique class, adapted for various levels of experience. Students will build on their technique and ballet vocabulary throughout the class to culminate in the learning of two pieces of adapted repertoire from different eras.

Partnering
Year 7 – 12

The physics of ballet.

Students will be guided through the basics of partnering, exploring counter balance, base of support, centre of gravity and weight sharing. These skills will then be integrated into the learning of a duet from a contemporary ballet from Queensland Ballet’s 2019 repertoire.
