When is the audition registration deadline?

Audition registrations close 2 weeks before the audition date.

Once audition registrations close, late registrations may be considered; however, priority will be given to registrations received within the timeline advised above.

What time will my audition be?

Audition classes will be scheduled between 8.30am-5.00pm on the audition date. An email will be issued the week prior to the audition date which will include detailed information about the event and the facilities. Please note that we are unable to advise of your specific audition class time earlier, as the schedule for the day is dependent on the number of registrations.

What should I wear to the audition?

· Boys: full-length tights, fitted t-shirt, socks and ballet flats (shoes).

· Girls: leotard, pink ballet tights and ballet flats (shoes)*.

*Pointe shoes will also be required for those auditioning for the Pre-Professional Program and Academy Program Levels 3 - 1 (Years 10 - 12) only.

What should I bring to the audition?

Please bring your dance attire, a water bottle and your completed Physiotherapy Screening Form (details of this requirement are available within the registration process). On the audition day, you will be required to hand in your form, at which time you will receive an audition number to pin to the front of your leotard/t shirt.

Please note, camera’s and mobile phones are not permitted in the studio.

What photos are required for the registration?

1 x recent headshot of the registrant (neat ballet hairstyles and minimal/no make-up).

1 x recent full body shot, wearing ballet attire, in a classical ballet position (examples of positions and images are listed below).

Academy and Guest Academy Program Levels 6 - 4 (Years 7 - 9): tendu a la seconde with arms in second position, standing in first position facing towards or away from the barre.

Academy Program Levels 3 - 1 (Years 10 - 12) and Pre-Professional Program: as above, or standing in arabesque in profile (a terre or en l'air, and en pointe for the ladies).

When will I receive the audition result?

Applicants will be notified of their audition result via email by the following dates:

  • Academy Program: Monday 20 September
  • Pre-Professional Program: Monday 27 September
  • Guest Academy Program: Monday 29 November

As is industry practice, no feedback regarding the result of the audition will be provided to applicants and/or parents/carers.

What happens if the applicant is successful?

Successful applicants will be advised by email with the result of their audition (see dates above). They will then have 2 weeks to either accept or decline the offer provided, before beginning the next stage of the enrolment process. On accepting the offer, successful applicants will be sent an Enrolment Package and may be advised to have a GP complete a Medical Form. Successful applicants for the Academy Program will also be asked to complete an Expression of Interest form for Kelvin Grove State College as part of the enrolment process. Full details will be provided.

What happens if the applicant is unsuccessful?

Unsuccessful applicants will be advised by email with the result of their audition (see dates above).  No feedback regarding the result of their audition will be given to applicants and/or their parents/carers.

The Academy Program is run in collaboration with the Department of Education and there is an appeals process available to unsuccessful applicants wishing to appeal on the grounds of procedural fairness only. Please note that the appeals process will close seven days after the results for the auditions are issued.

Unsuccessful applicants may audition again in the future.

How many applicants are accepted each year?

The Academy accepts students based on their skill level and suitability for our training programs. The number of successful applicants varies each year.

How do I know if it is worth auditioning again in the future?

Unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to continue working hard towards their goals and are welcome to re-audition in the future.

What happens if I am unable to attend due to border restrictions?

In the event that Queensland Ballet Academy are unable to run in-person auditions, or you are unable to attend due to current Covid-19 restrictions, video auditions will be requested. Please refer to the audition terms and conditions for further information.

How do I audition if I am not an Australian citizen or resident?
