I am hoping to join Queensland Ballet Academy in 2021; by what date does my video audition need to be submitted?
Please note the following closing dates for Queensland Ballet Academy 2021 auditions.
Pre-Professional Program: 6 September, 11.59pm.
Academy Program: 2 August, 11.59pm.
Guest Academy Program: 1 November, 11.59pm.
Foundation Program: Pre-selection Experience registrations will open later in the year. Register your interest here.
I have missed the closing date, am I still able to apply?
Once audition applications close, late applicants will be able to complete a wait list form and will be contacted later in the year, should positions remain available. Late audition applications will be considered; however, priority be given to applications received within the timeline advised above.
If I have more than one child auditioning, can I submit their video auditions all within the one file?
No, we require one application per applicant. Each individual application must include registration form, headshot, full body shot, video audition link and audition fee.
What should my child wear while completing their video audition?
· Boys: full-length tights, fitted t-shirt, socks and ballet shoes
· Girls: classical leotard, pink ballet tights and ballets shoes*. No skirts or outerwear.
*Pointe shoes required for applicants applying for the Pre-Professional Program and Academy Program Levels 3 - 1 (Years 10 - 12) only.
Dance attire should be of a single and contrasting colour to the background. Dancewear in red, fluro, black, bright white do not always work well on camera.
My child does not have access to a studio or ballet bare. Is it compulsory for the digital audition to be filmed in a dance studio?
In order to meet safety and practical requirements, the audition needs to take place at a suitable dance venue.
Do I need to provide professionally filmed footage for the audition?
No, it is also completely acceptable to film your audition on a phone or tablet. We have listed some tips below on how you can maximise your filming quality:
· Use a tripod or stand to ensure a clear, stable image.
· Film in well-lit space however avoid a bright background behind the dancer.
· Film from an angle that best compliments the dancer (eg. 45˚ angle).
· Ensure the dancer’s full length is always visible (camera focused at waist height).
· Prior to submission, check the file is accessible and has good audio/visual quality.
