The Senior Program (known as Academy Program from 2021) is comprehensively designed to help develop students' skills to the highest artistic and technical standards. Students enrolled in this program enjoy the privilege and benefit of working within a professional environment to prepare them for a career in ballet or dance.
The Senior Program is currently available to students in Years 10 - 12, but will be extended from 2021 to include students from Years 7 - 12, and renamed the Academy Program. In partnership with the Queensland Department of Education, the Senior Program / Academy Program allows students to undertake face-to-face secondary academic studies at Kelvin Grove State College. Students who successfully complete the program also receive a Statement of Attainment endorsed by Queensland Ballet and the Department of Education. Vocational Education and Training accredited courses are also available, for example, Diploma of Business, through Kelvin Grove State College.
This program consists of half-day of dance and half-day of academic studies, with further dance subjects offered on Saturdays (Levels 3 - 1). It covers all aspects of classical ballet training including daily class, pas de deux, repertoire, pointe and male technique, as well as training in classical character dance, contemporary dance, and body conditioning and male fitness. Additional supplementary subjects, such as musicality studies, choreography and improvisation, ballet history, drama and mime, career preparation, and sessions focusing on safe dance practice, performance psychology and sports nutrition are also offered throughout the course*.
*Additional studies are offered based on level of training. Some levels may not offer these courses.
