Queensland Dance School of Excellence
The Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE), established in 1982, operates in partnership with Queensland Ballet and the Queensland Government's Department of Education, Training and Employment. This unique school provides talented students with the opportunity to pursue elite ballet and dance training without forgoing face-to-face senior schooling.
Now in its 32nd year, QDSE continues to deliver the quality training that has been the foundation for many of Australia's successful professional dancers, teachers and choreographers.
Highlighting the long-standing relationship with the Queensland Ballet, QDSE's program was further enhanced in 2011 by the introduction of a ballet stream.
As well as sharing residence at the home of Queensland Ballet, the Thomas Dixon Centre, QDSE students regularly attend the Company’s performances and take weekly master classes with QB’s top ranking dancers. The intensive daily training, along with the advanced supplementary work provided by the Queensland Ballet's Artistic Staff, has led to graduates of QDSE being of an appropriate standard to enter the Company’s Pre-Professional Program. In 2013, six Queensland Ballet Company Dancers are graduates of QDSE.
In addition to the full-time Year 11/12 Diploma of Dance, QDSE offers supplementary programs from Grade 3 – 10 at Kelvin Grove State College.
