Junior Extension Program

Junior Extension Program
The Queensland Ballet Junior Extension Program (JEP) was introduced in 2001, and is designed to supplement the work done by community dance teachers. It offers a small group of gifted young dance students the opportunity to further develop their skills by working with a group of their peers under the guidance of the Company’s Artistic Staff. Participants are selected by audition, and must be aged between 11 and 14 years.

Audition Information
Auditions for the Queensland Ballet Junior Extension Program are normally held in September/October every year and information is posted on the website and distributed to all dance schools / teachers on the Company’s register in August each year.

To participate in the program, students are required to be enrolled with a community dance teacher or studio, and to be attending regular classes with that teacher. The dance teacher’s signature is required on the audition form. No particular ballet grade is required. The audition takes the form of a class (barre and centre work) which will be observed by the artistic staff responsible for making the selection. The audition class will be conducted with live piano music.

Auditions for the 2011 intake for the Junior Extension Program will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010.

To prepare those students wishing to audition, an Audition Experience Cass will be held on October 3, 2010.

General Information
At the end of the first year of the Program, students who are still eligible by age may be offered a place in the Junior Extension Program for a further year, either for a second year in the junior class or a place in the advanced class. This depends on their progress during the year and the assessment of the Program Co-ordinator.

Classes are held once per week on Tuesdays during school terms, at the Thomas Dixon Centre, cnr Drake Street and Montague Rd, West End.
Junior Class: 4.00pm - 5.25pm
Advanced Class: 5.35pm - 7.00pm

The principal teacher is Robyn White, Queensland Ballet‘s Artistic Associate. Classes are conducted with live piano accompaniment.

Teachers and parents of students enrolled in the program are invited to attend the final class of each term.
Students in the program will be given first consideration in any instance when the Company requires juvenile performers for a production. However, performance opportunities are not part of the Program.

While no uniform is required, the Company offers students the opportunity to purchase leotards featuring the Company logo.
