Queensland Ballet has a strong commitment to dance education through three different programs: the Professional Year, the Junior Extension Program, and the Queensland Dance School of Excellence.

Professional Year
The Queensland Ballet Professional Year is a unique training program for exceptional young dancers to assist them to make the transition to a fully professional career in dance, particularly in ballet.

The Queensland Ballet Professional Year (PY) is an innovative program for gifted young dancers who are interested in pursuing a professional career in classical ballet. The course is unique in Australia in being offered in the context of a professional dance company, providing the training and experience needed for dance students to make the transition to the profession. read more


Junior Extension Program
The Queensland Ballet Junior Extension Program (JEP) was introduced in 2001, and is designed to supplement the work done by community dance teachers. It offers a small group of gifted young dance students the opportunity to further develop their skills by working with a group of their peers under the guidance of the Company’s Artistic Staff. Participants are selected by audition, and must be aged between 11 and 14 years. read more


Queensland Dance School of Excellence
The Queensland Dance School of Excellence (QDSE) is an Education Queensland program offered in partnership with Queensland Ballet. It provides talented dance students in Years 11 and 12 with the opportunity to combine full-time dance training with academic studies at Kelvin Grove State College.  QDSE, established in 1982, has grown to the extent where it is now possible for students to experience dance over the complete 10 - year span from Year 3 to12.
