Dara Cust’s first association with Queensland Ballet was as a member of the 2005 cohort of the Junior Extension. Following training with Anne Fraser on the Sunshine Coast, Dara successfully auditioned for a place in Queensland Ballet’s Professional Year in 2008, remaining in the program in 2009. During her time in the program, she performed in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the International Gala, Swan Lake and the regional Queensland tour of The Amazing Magician in 2008. In 2009, she performed in the return season of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Sleeping Beauty, as well as Step Forward!, the program devised to showcase the 2009 Professional Year students. She was also the recipient of the 2009 Patricia MacDonald Bursary and was selected to perform as an extra in the Paris Opera Ballet’s production of La Bayadère. Dara joined Queensland Ballet as a Trainee dancer in January 2010, appearing in and presenting workshops for Queensland Ballet’s education and outreach program, DANCE+. In addition to her dance, Dara has well-developed skills in drama and art.
