Sarah Thompson began dancing under Yvonne Britain at the age of five. She was offered a place in Queensland Ballet’s Professional Year following two years of full-time dance training at the Queensland Dance School of Excellence, where she received the Charles Lisner Memorial Scholarship. While still a student of the School, she was engaged by Queensland Ballet as a dancer for the 2007 season of The Nutcracker. In her first year in the Professional Year program, she performed in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the 2008 International Gala, The Little Mermaid, and Swan Lake, as well as the regional Queensland tour of The Amazing Magician. She was also the recipient of the 2008 Patricia MacDonald Bursary. In her second year, Sarah appeared in A Streetcar Named Desire, the Brisbane and regional Queensland performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the 2009 International Gala, The Sleeping Beauty, where she performed the role of Miettes, one of the fairies, and Step Forward!, the program devised to showcase the 2009 Professional Year students. Sarah was selected to perform as an extra in the Paris Opera Ballet’s production of La Bayadère in 2009, and was taken into Queensland Ballet as a Trainee dancer in January, 2010.
