Australian-born, Alex’s early dance training was at the Rambert School in London and The Australian Ballet School, following which he accepted a contract with The Australian Ballet in 1995. After working with Dance North in 1999, he joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet and subsequently the English National Ballet, under the direction of Matz Skoog.
Alex returned to Australia in 2005, taking up a contract with West Australian Ballet. He has performed numerous roles in his career: highlights include dancing the role of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet at Sadler’s Wells in London, the Prince in Swan Lake, Rodolfo in Simon Dow’s production of La bohème for West Australian Ballet and the trio in Nacho Duato’s Pour vos Muero. Dance Australia named him as a ‘Dancer to Watch’ in its annual survey of dance in Australia in 2006.
Alex joined Queensland Ballet in 2006, performing in François Klaus’s production of Cloudland. Since then he has performed major roles in many productions, including A Thousand and One Nights (Prince Kalendar), Romeo & Juliet (Mercutio), Carmen (Escamillo), Swan Lake (Nicholas and Siegfried) and in the International Gala and …with attitude seasons from 2006 to 2009.
Alex toured with the Company to Europe and Singapore in 2007 and in November of that year was invited to dance with Rachael Walsh at the Asia Pacific Ballet Festival in Seoul, Korea, performing Klaus’s Chant d’Amour. He also toured with the Company to Japan in April 2008 with The Little Mermaid, and to Europe in 2009 with Timeless Dances.
Alex was promoted to Principal Dancer in July 2009. That year he performed in Klaus's A Streetcar Named Desire (Allan), regional tour of A Midsummer Night's Dream (Lysander) and The Sleeping Beauty (Prince Desire). He also performed in Louise Deleur's Linage in International Gala 2009, Kim McCarthy's Nineteen and Nils Christe's SYNC in ...with attitude 2009, and the Company's three Vis-a-vis Studio Series programs.
