Nathan studied at the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy and Brent Street Studio before accepting a place at The Australian Ballet School in 2002. He graduated in 2004 with an Advanced Diploma of Dance and took up his first professional contract with Queensland Ballet in 2005n being promoted to Soloist in October, 2007.
In 2005 Nathan performed his first solo role as the Prince in the touring production of The Little Mermaid. He also performed the Blue Bird pas de deux from François Klaus’s The Sleeping Beauty and La Chasse in Queensland Ballet’s Vis-à-vis Studio Series; as well as creating the Arabian pas de deux with Clare Morehen for the Company's production of The Nutcracker in 2005. Other major roles which have been created by François Klaus upon Nathan include Don José in Carmen (2007), both the title role of Romeo and Tybalt in Romeo & Juliet (2006), the roles of Theseus and Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2008) and the role of Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire (2009). In 2008, Nathan danced the title role of Orpheus in …with attitude 2008, a role created on him by Natalie Weir.
Nathan has also performed in Klaus’s Cloudland (Alfred), The Nutcracker (2007) and Swan Lake (2008); Natalie Weir’s Wuthering Heights (Heathcliff), and Petrushka (The Moor), as well as International Gala and …with attitude seasons from 2005–09. In 2009 he danced both the Bluebird pas de deux and the role of Catalabutte in The Sleeping Beauty.
Nathan toured with the Company to Europe in 2006, 2007 and 2009, to Singapore in 2007, and to Japan in 2008.
