Principal Dancer


Clare was accepted into the Royal Ballet School in London after attending the Victorian College of the Arts in 2001. While a student, Clare performed with the Royal Ballet Company in several productions, including seasons of The Sleeping Beauty and Manon.

In 2004 Clare accepted a contract with Birmingham Royal Ballet for that company’s tour of North England, and later that year, joined Queensland Ballet. Since then, Clare has performed in all Queensland Ballet productions. Her roles include the Bluebird (2005), Lilac Fairy and Aurora (2009) in François Klaus’s The Sleeping Beauty, the title role in his Romeo & Juliet, and Catherine in Natalie Weir’s Wuthering Heights. The role of Micaela in Klaus’s Carmen and the Arabian pas de deux in The Nutcracker were created upon Clare.

She has also performed in Klaus’s Cloudland, and the International Gala and …with attitude seasons from 2005–09, Hippolyta/Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2008) as well as dancing the lead roles of Mathilde Kschessinska and Odette in Swan Lake (2008).

Clare participated in the Company’s 2006 and 2007 tours to Germany and Switzerland, and to Singapore. She was promoted to Soloist in October 2007. In 2008, Clare toured with the Company to Japan with The Little Mermaid, and in October 2009 to Europe with Timeless Dances.

Clare was promoted to Principal Dancer in July 2009, after performing the role of Blanche in François Klaus's A Streetcar Named Desire. She also performed in Gareth's Belling's Transference in Vis-a-vis Studio Series 1.
