The Amazing Magician
Hammamelis Coxinus
This charming ballet for young children by
François Klaus was enthusiastically received in Brisbane
in 2002. In 2003, we tour the production to regional Queensland
with the support of the Queensland Arts Council.
The Amazing Magician tells the story
of a magician who leads a rather ordinary life until one day
he discovers a life-giving potion. Using his discovery on
his wind-up mechanical dolls, he puts them to work cleaning,
mending and cooking for him. If they refuse, he makes them
dance to the music of his magic fiddle until they are exhausted.
Eventually one of the dolls steals the fiddle and seeks revenge.
The resulting chaos is saved only by the intervention of the
story-teller, who weaves a little magic of his own.
