Season 2002
The Sleeping Beauty
With The Queensland Orchestra
conducted by: Thomas Woods
Choreography: François Klaus
Music: Piotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky.
This masterwork of the great 19th century choreographer Marius Petipa
survives today not only because of its story, but also because of Tchaikovsky's
wonderful score. Based on one of the best-loved tales from Charles Perrault's
Mother Goose, the ballet was first presented in 1890 and versions have
since been created by many choreographers. Queensland Ballet's Artistic
Director, François Klaus, revisits this fairytale classic, retaining the
best of the traditional choreography and its well-known characters –
the evil Carabosse, the good Lilac Fairy, and the beautiful Princess Aurora
and her Prince Desiré.

Cathedrals Week
After the success of Queensland Ballet's Passion at the inaugural Cathedrals
Week in 1999 the Company was invited to create a work for the 2002 Cathedrals
Week.
St Francis of Assisi
Choreography: Paul Boyd
St Francis of Assisi will be presented in the magnificent St John's Cathedral
with raked seating to ensure an unimpeded view of the stage. St
Francis tells the story of this inspirational man, whose credo was simplicity,
poverty and humility. He is also considered by many to be the world's
first environmentalist because of his love of plants and animals.
St Francis of Assisi brings together the combined talents of musicians
from The Queensland Orchestra, Canticum chamber choir, and the Queensland
Ballet dancers, providing an entertaining performance for the whole family
to enjoy.

The Blue Angel Cabaret
Choreographed and produced by François Klaus, this highly entertaining
piece of music theatre with a difference was one of the hits of the 2000
Brisbane Festival. The Blue Angel Cabaret returns for a short season in
the Optus Playhouse, performed again by Queensland Ballet with international
cabaret trio, Combo Fiasco. Formed in 1993, Combo Fiasco (Tony McGill,
Charmaine Clements, and Shaun Murphy) today is one of Australia's most
successful entertainment exports to the USA, performing their distinctive
original arrangements of music theatre songs. Sheer escapism - a great
night out!
