A Midsummer Nights Dream A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummer Night's Dream is the perfect vehicle for Francois Klaus to create a ballet full of humour and mayhem. Based on Shakespeare's well-known classic, the Dream is a story of adventures and misadventures, falling in love, mismatched lovers, magic spells, forest glades and moonlight. This lavish production will be performed by an augmented cast and will include all the familiar characters such as Oberon and Titania (the King and Queen of the Fairies), Hermia, Helena, Demetrius, Lysander, and of course, Puck. A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed with live orchestra.

2001 International Gala 2001 International Gala

The International Gala has become one of the most eagerly awaited annual events in the dance year. Guest artists, representing some of the best dancers in the world today, come to Brisbane to share the stage with Queensland Ballet and present an evening's entertainment that is a sheer delight. Showcasing short works by well-known choreographers, the Gala provides an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary ballet with wide appeal.

Don Quixote Don Quixote

Francois Klaus premieres his version of this popular story of a timeless dreamer, Don Quixote, searching for an unattainable ideal. Set in both the present and the past, this ballet follows the Don's adventures, mixing gentle humour with Don Quixote's inevitable fate. Performed with live orchestra.

Vis-a-Vis Vis-a-Vis

Extremely popular with audiences, the Vis-a-vis series of three intimate programs will again be presented in the Charles Lisner Studio at the Thomas Dixon Centre. These informative and educational evenings enable the audience to see Queensland Ballet in a relaxed, behind-the-scenes fashion, focussing on a particular aspect of dance, with Francois Klaus as host.

  • Comedy in Ballet

    With the humorous A Midsummer Night's Dream opening the main 2001 Queensland Ballet season, the first Vis-a-vis takes a closer look at the role of comedy in ballet. Renowned for his use of humour in dance, Francois Klaus will illustrate his commentary with short excerpts from different ballets.

  • Power Pointe

    Mixing the physical power and beauty of classically trained dancers with the infectious rhythm of popular music inspires audiences and introduces them to new possibilities in dance. Power Pointe is a selection of Francois Klaus's most physical dances and the premiere of a new work.

    Queensland Ballet is proud of its role in nurturing young dancers and choreographers. The last season in the Vis-a-vis series for 2001 will focus on the talents of the Professional Year students as they prepare for the next step in the life of a professional dancer. They will be joined by the Company to present a memorable evening of dance.

Dance Bait Dance Bait

Confronting, sensual, alive. Queensland Ballet presents a season of contemporary works created by guest and Company choreographers and performed by the young, athletic and vibrant Queensland Ballet dancers. Dance Bait will entice audiences into new dance territory.

Kidnapped! The Abducted Orchestra Kidnapped! The abducted orchestra

A charming production created by Francois Klaus for ages three to 103 providing an educational and very humorous introduction to the orchestra, ballet and drama.
